Bâton XXL

Romain Simon is one of the key figures of the Amiens underground scene, running multiple musical hustles and acting as one of the hyperactive keepers of the unmissable Accueil Froid Nuke venue. As a former/present member iconic art-noise outfit Headwar, raging doom screamers La Race and post-apocalyptic party duo Me Donner, Romain’s solo Bâton XXL is a total embodiment of his unfettered energy, expressed through a modified drum kit, fizzled vocals, electronic triggers and mean ass sticks. A percussive flux to drunkenly drown in, where deranged dance rituals may follow.

Pas loin, un type tape sur des tambours dans un jeu déroutant, assumé dans ses métriques, tout en gémissant. Ce n'est pas une performance c'est une installation. Le type est Romain Simon (Headwar, La Race, Me Donner). Ce n'est pas une installation, c'est un cadeau. Une leçon, un constat, voire une confirmation: la mise à nu de l'existence même, la révélation de son absurdité: "Ah oui, c'est vrai! En fait, tout ça ne veut rien dire!"

Romain Simon, a trained sound technician and percussionist, found space to explore both fields of expertise through his solo project Bâton XXL, a reputation stemming from Amiens, France. He plays snare drum, floor tom, and banjo, the last of which he doesn't touch during his set, creating a harsh but hypnotic sea of percussive noise, accompanied by his fragile honest voice. Although sonically intimidating, once surrendered to, his music is incredibly entrancing.
